Quick browser-based download speed test using Cloudflare's public speed test endpoint. Downloads a 1 MB sample, times it, and reports your speed in Mbps.
An internet speed test measures how fast your network can download (and sometimes upload) data. Most ISPs' branded speed tests (PTCL Speed Test, Jio Speed Test, etc.) are just web-based versions of the same idea โ fetch a known-size file from a fast server, time it, calculate Mbps. This tool uses Cloudflare's public 1 MB endpoint, which is fast and reliable from anywhere in the world.
Click 'Run speed test'. The tool fetches a 1 MB file from speed.cloudflare.com, times the request, and calculates Mbps using bytes ร 8 / seconds. The result shows in real-time once the download completes.
Run a speed test when your connection feels slow, when troubleshooting buffering on a video call, when comparing two ISPs, when verifying a hardware upgrade, or when investigating speed differences between Wi-Fi and Ethernet.
Run the test multiple times โ single results vary with network jitter. For complete latency / jitter / upload data use Cloudflare's full speed.cloudflare.com page or Speedtest by Ookla. Test wired vs Wi-Fi to isolate router issues from ISP issues.
Browser-based upload tests are unreliable due to CORS limits. For upload use Speedtest by Ookla.
ISPs measure 'up to' speeds. Wi-Fi adds overhead. Background downloads, VPNs and crowded networks all reduce real throughput.
For Gbps connections, 1 MB downloads in milliseconds and gives a noisy estimate. Larger samples are more accurate; this is a quick check, not a calibrated benchmark.
